Peace in the midst of Suffering.. I love the Lord – Whitney Houston

Life eh!, sometimes you wake up and you are sad, saddened in your spirit, saddened about your life, the things you have missed, the things you could have become, the mistakes you have made in life and you say, ‘If only’!. If only I could turn back the clock, if only I hadn’t made such decision, if only I had taken that opportunity. If only!, If Only! or the question. ‘Why me?, Why me Lord? Life eh!

But then other days come and you wake up elated with joy, with happiness, unimaginable, indescribable and   beyond this world, you feel like dancing on the moon, running up to the rooftop and shouting it out for all the world to hear, your smile, your laughter, you glow with joy and you think Wow! God I love you so much!.

In life no two days are the same. In this world nothing is permanent and nothing is absolute, everything is subject to a change, everything has a season. Their once lived a  richest and wisest King in history who walked on this planet, history tells us he was so wise he had the gift to understand and talk to everything, from human to spirits to animals and to plants (more than Dr Do Little!) said  ‘There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven’:There is a time to be born and a time to die, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to grieve and a time to laugh.  Ecc 3:1

Even creation itself is not left behind, it evolves, nothing is permanent. The good book says,  As long as the earth remains, there will be planting and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, will never cease.” Gen8:22

Sometimes you meet people who smile everytime, it doesn’t mean they don’t have there sad days. For everyone has there own sad days, from the richest to the poorest, to some it might be financial, to some it might be in their marriage, to some it might be parenting, to some it might be health. Nobody is immune to sadness, everybody’s mind gets troubled once in awhile.

The question is how do you ‘get over it’, overcome these seasons!. Everyone varies, everyone is different and everyone has different strengths. I have found out in my research and in my works that having a:
  •  ‘serving attitude’ goes the furthermost. Join a charity, there is always someone that is less fortunate than you, helping them is the best therapy to overcome your hurdle.  The more you reach out in serving, in love the more you receive, love and healing for your soul. The phrase what you sow you reap is absolutely true.                                                           You sow hope to the hopeless, you receive  back in multitude, you sow love by reaching out in charitable work. I remembered being sad in my spirit one day and I visited a hospital on my chaplaincy ward round and met a lady who was crying and very sad and weighed down, she hasn’t slept in four months!.                                                                There I was ungrateful for some minor thing and am reminded of what I take for granted. I held her hands and we prayed together. I know HE heard us that day.
  • ‘grateful heart’ having a thankful spirit in spite of all is another therapy, when you shift your focus from what you don’t have to what you have, it detoxes your soul from the weight of anger, hate, self abuse, these things are invisible snakes that eat at the mind. try reflecting on the things that make you happy, write a list and dwell on them, just like a magnet, it attract in to your soul joy, peace and happiness. Instantly it brings a smile to your face. You give it a try, you will see, like acid that corrodes the flesh on contact, the soul eating snakes will begin to crawl out of your system one by one.
  • ‘Singing theraphy’ Singing and listening to music is also a great therapy, with instant effects, if you listen to a song that reminds you of laughter, it will put a smile on your face and if you ad dancing to it, well that’s magic. I always start my day with a joyous song, it lifts me up spiritually and puts me in a happy appreciative mood for the day. Hence I have a ‘happy spirit’. give it a try and see!
  • ‘Its good to talk’ I remember this slogan used by BT. Indeed it is very good to talk, the more you talk about it to the ‘right people’ the more quicker you will get a solution to the problem. However, you need to prioritise.
  • ALWAYS TALK TO GOD FIRSTTrust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; inall your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths.Prv 3:5
  • Medical help if need be
  • Friends and colleagues, who you are sure will have a positive attitude to help you. Not those who will act as a catalyst of destruction.

I hope this has helped someone this morning, to seek peace in the midst of suffering.

I leave you with my favourite therapeutic song when I need a bit of a lift!

here is the lyrics, hope it will help you too.
