Yinka Shonibare’s “Globe Head Ballerina” @ Royal Opera House

British-Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare’s new artwork “Globe Head Ballerina” has been installed on the exterior of the Royal Opera House in London as part of the London 2012 Festival programme of cultural events to celebrate the Olympic Games. The sculpture features a life-sized ballerina encased within a giant ‘snow globe’. The work was inspired by a photograph of the legendary ballerina Margot Fonteyn, prima ballerina assoluta of the Royal Ballet, and the ballerina figure is modelled on Melissa Hamilton, soloist with the Royal Ballet.

We remember his famous work platformed at Trafalgar square called the Nelson ship, it was a ship in a cock bottle!, I took the kids to see it too. The MBE holder is famous for his use of Ankara fabrics. I must say I am not a fan of his Kinky dreadlocks though!
